People always ask what the food on the Norwegian Sun Cruise is like. Is it really good? The answer is YES! and No. What we found was the food in the complementary dining rooms and specialty dining rooms was excellent! The food in the buffet…not so much.
What we really love about the Norwegian Cruise Lines is the free-style dining. You don’t have set dining times or set table seating. This allows you to just show up for meals when you are hungry or to work around the entertainment and activities onboard. We found no need really to do the buffet other than the lunch in the Moderna restaurant that has a salad bar, pizza and ramen style noodles that you can customize to your taste.
The buffet was popular with some people but we found that the food was often cold and lower quality than what we got in the main dining rooms.
I also can’t praise the dining room staff enough. Everyone from greeters to wait staff to dining room managers were amazing and efficient. Carisa was our favourite waitress who we got to know and requested to be seated in her section whenever possible. I highly recommend getting to know your wait staff and when you find one you really like, request to be in their section at every meal! We tipped her at every meal because her service was amazing. She remembered our wine preferences and any special requests we had were quickly met and she always anticipated our needs. She was amazing!
