Is Amex Aeroplan Card Worth It?

This video explains how we earned 40,000 Aeroplan points using the Amex Aeroplan card by strategically timing spending around a renovation project. It covers the card’s benefits, points accumulation, and practical tips for meeting spending thresholds without extra expenses.

Amex Aeroplan Card Overview

  • Earn 30,000 Aeroplan points as a signup bonus plus an additional 10,000 points after spending $1,000 in the 13th month.
  • The spending requirement is $3,000 in 3 months.
  • Points can be used for domestic or international flights with 25+ airline partners.

Meeting Spending Requirements Strategically

  • We used a planned renovation to spend on appliances and flooring, hitting the $3,000 target without any extra purchases.
  • You should time your credit card applications to coincide with big expected expenses (renovations, events, vacations).

Handling American Express Acceptance

  • AMEX is generally accepted throughout Ontario at grocery stores, restaurants, and malls.
  • For places that don’t accept AMEX, we use an RBC Visa Rewards Card as a backup.

Additional Aeroplan Perks

  • Earned 20,000 Aeroplan points from Bell Canada partnership by switching phone plans.
  • Aeroplan points total now around 56,722 points.

We plan to cancel this card after collecting the bonus and switch to other Aeroplan or AMEX cards better suited for long-term use.
